这个故事的主要内容是：小鼷鹿想要过河，一只鳄鱼说要帮他，但是小鼷鹿知道鳄鱼只是想吃掉他。小鼷鹿告诉鳄鱼，国王想知道河里一共有多少只鳄鱼，然后让鳄鱼们排成一排，他来数一数。小鼷鹿从一只鳄鱼背上跳到另一只鳄鱼背上，就这样过了河。 读完这个故事，我家的哥哥似乎只把精力用在“读”上，没有太多的思考。弟弟提出了一个我无法回答的问题：“妈妈，鳄鱼不是能上岸么？他怎么不追上岸？”我真不知道怎么回答弟弟这个问题，只能夸弟弟：“你真是个爱思考的孩子！” 等我查完资料明天再告诉他吧。
One day Little Mouse Deer went to the river. 一天，小鼷鹿来到河边。 He was hungry. He could see leaves and fruit on the other side of the river. 他很饿。他看到河对岸有很多树叶和果子。 Now in the river there was a crocodile. （可是）现在河里有一只鳄鱼。 The crocodile was hungry, too. He wanted to eat Little Mouse Deer. 鳄鱼也很饿。他想吃掉小鼷鹿。
When Crocodile saw Little Mouse Deer he said,quot;Do you want to get to the other side of the river?quot; 鳄鱼看了看小鼷鹿，说：“你想到河对岸去么？” I can help you. 我可以帮你。 Little Mouse Deer did not want Crocodile to help him. 小鼷鹿并不想让鳄鱼帮他。 quot;Crocodile will not help me,quot;he said to himself. quot;He will eat me.quot; “鳄鱼才不会帮我呢！”小鼷鹿对自己说，“他会吃了我的。” So Little Mouse Deer said,quot;The king wants me to count how many crocodiles there are in the river.quot;于是，小鼷鹿说：“国王让我来数一数这条河里总共有多少只鳄鱼。” quot;Make a line in the river,quot; said Little Mouse Deer.quot;Then I can count how many crocodiles there are.quot;“你们在河里排成一排，”小鼷鹿说，“这样我才能数清楚一共有多少只鳄鱼。” So all the crocodiles made a line in the river.
